Davao Switches off Lights for Earth Hour
SM Supermalls joins 178 countries and territories around the world Saturday, March 25, 2017, millions of people are switching off their lights for Earth Hour, an annual event to highlight the global threat from climate change.
This year’s theme celebrates “Shine a Light on Climate Action ” — the mountains, rivers, beaches, reefs, forests and national parks that organizers say are in peril from climate change.
At exactly 8:30 pm at the Open Parking C, shoppers rally around the area to witness the historical moment. DENR Regional Director Ms. Ruth Tawantawan, SM Mall Manager Ms. Maria Lynette Lopez and SM’s Group Marketing Manager Ms. Eduard Aaron Dalaza joined by a representative of the Boy Scout of the Philippines, Mr.Michael Kenneth Babuyo initiated the big switch –off onstage.
Members of the Davao Blue Eagles Marching Band wore Imperial storm trooper masks inspired by the “Star Wars” movie franchise, as they went about playing brass instruments. (The glow-in-the-dark tops were a functionally appropriate touch, too, given the time of the event.). To complete the ensemble, the band leader was all decked out in a Darth Vader costume. To say it was the most awesome sight to behold.
Pinoy Boy Band Superstar Top 12 Finalist Allen Cecilio treated screaming fans to surprise performances. Joining him were the Evolve Pole Fitness Dancers, wore glow-in-the-dark gear as they dance, party, and play the night away on the poles. SM City Davao also handed certificate to Davao’s best photographers during the Night Photo Walk.

Giant Tangram Challenge Davao Students
SM City Davao through its Art in the City Visual Arts Festival Program together with Tabula Rasa Art Group Unlimited headed by Mr. Dinky Munda opened the Tabula Rasa Exhibit last March 11, 2017, featuring the Giant Tangram Competition.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Guests of Honor Ms. Irene Santiago from the office of the President (Chair, Implementing Panel for the Bangsamoro Peace Accord), Ms. Maria Lynette Lopez (SM City Davao Mall Manager), and Ms. Ging Descallar.
The event kicked off with the Giant Tangram Competition participated by various schools in the city and is open to all Bonafide High School and College Students. Eight groups made it to the competition level with a maximum of three (3) and a maximum of five (5) students from the same academe.
The painting must embody the Mindanao Contemporary Art and Mindanao Tapestry. Participants were given 4x4ft tangram, with seven separate pieces of tans to paint. The competition’s criteria include Artistic Appeal, Interpretation of the Theme and Creativity and Originality. Grand Prize winner from the University of Mindanao took home ten thousand pesos with their “Fish” entry. The winning pieces are displayed at the 2nd Level Annex, near Kidzoona till March 25, 2017.
Tangram is a traditional Chinese puzzle made of a square divided into seven pieces (one parallelogram, one square, and five triangles). When all pieces are put together, they form one big square, when they are separated, they form what is called a tan. The relationship among the pieces enables them to fit together to form many figures and arrangements such as human, animals, structures and many others.

Better known for her commercial jingles and her stint on The Voice of the Philippines Season 1, Moira is gradually making waves in the music business. In The Voice, she was chosen by Apl de Ap to comprise his team of talented artists.
The 23-year-old artist is the voice behind popular TV jingles like McDonald’s “Hooray for Today,” Lewis and Pearl’s “Sweet Paris,” Surf’s “Pinalaki,” Johnson & Johnson’s “Signature of Love,” Lactacyd’s “Cool and Fresh,” and many more.
In 2013, Moira released her self-titled debut album and music video under Ivory Music, which features her singles “Love Me Instead” and “If You Tell Me You Love Me,” which bagged numerous award nominations in 2014. The full album is available on iTunes.
As a composer, Moira wrote the big hit song “Malaya,” the theme song of the 2016 movie, Camp Sawi. She is currently working on her second album from Star Music.

DCNHS VOCAL ARTS RECITAL
When you hear the heavenly voice of the legendary Barbra Streisand singing “One God” interpreted with high leaps and the purity of her stretched cabrioles by ballerina Ms. Zoe B. Gementiza you know you are in for a surprise.
High notes linger and vibrated the DCNHS auditorium last Saturday 7 pm for this year’s DCNHS Vocal Arts Recital. It was a shrewdly paced, straightforward evening. The auditorium was packed with attentive listeners, and they were engaged, if not swept away, by the first half.
Led by an exceptional faculty committed to the educational development of the next generation of world-class singers, the short but remarkable performances by the students did bring the house down. Musical director Ms. Elena B. Gementiza, gave a polished performance that went from engaging to exhilarating, with a string line of well-thought songs for the night’s repertoire.
The SPA Vocal Arts Students and The Davao Girls’ Choir, composed of Grade 7-11 students, showed their rich voices, expansive range, and dynamic stage presence. The show’s Part one repertoire’ include compositions by Jude b. Roldan (O, Lord Hear my Prayer), Sally K. Albrecht (Let The Earth Resound), Andy Beck (Sing Alleluia, Alelu), Jay Althouse (For the Beauty of the Earth), Albrecht & Althouse (Step by Step) and Mr Joy T. Nilo’s (Leron Leron Sinta/Ako Kini Si Anggi and Bahay Kubo.
The second half of the recital feature “fresh and bright, happy, and welcoming” feel to the program, “Cantate Domino” composed by Ken Steven, “Lux Eterna” by Jude B. Roldan and “Koyo No Tebulul” by Eudenice Palaruan.
The solo performance of Nicanor Abelardo’s “Nasaan Ka Irog” by
Ms. Julz Quitua made audience went wild after, singing his heart out. As the spotlight fell onto her, Julzr started to belt out the song before hitting the high notes with ease.
Popular songs like “Roar”, “Cheerleader”, “Call Me Maybe” and “Shut Up & Dance” was the encore, the SPA Vocal Arts students aptly closing the evening with a sincere and heartfelt performance
Dr. Wenefredo E. Cagape (Principal IV/Public Schools District Supervisor gave a heart-warming message and congratulated the entire production team for coming up with performances that will surely set foot opportunities to students and prepared them for success in today’s professional arena.
Best of all was the superb production, it was a fast-moving, zesty production with bucket loads of amazing renditions, and one of the most enjoyable evenings I have had for some time.

I DO I DO ARAW NG PAGBIG (KASALANG BAYAN) 2017
True to its name, the Home Development Mutual Fund popularly known as Pag-IBIG Fund, sponsored for the 6h year, a civil mass for its members last Feb 14, 2017, at SMX Convention Center.
Dubbed as “I Do, I Do, Araw ng Pagibig, the 183 couple-participants was beaming with pride as they were solemnized by Honorable Judge Roland S. Tolentino.
The event aims to help couples. especially those who were living in for years, to finally legalize their union through civil marriage rites, while at the same time promote financial literacy and appreciation of the concept of savings among newlyweds. Membership to Pag-Ibig Fund of at least one of the pair is a pre-requisite to join the Kasalang Bayan.
The mass wedding event does not end after the exchange of I Do’s. It paves the way for newlyweds to start a financially solid future through PAG-IBIG Fund membership. Pag-IBIG Fund Davao stands witness, represented by Visayas-Mindanao Group Vice-President for Home Lending Operations, Fermin A. Sta Teresa Jr. and Southern Mindanao Area Head, Elizabeth V. Tinagan.
To add to the festive atmosphere, exciting raffle prizes were given away to lucky newlyweds.
Stunning Events and Weddings facilitated the entire decorations and coordination led by Mr. Christopher “Toffy” Pontinez Ledesma and Mr. Ritchie Uy Delos Santos. Delos Santos had a great vision for amazing details of beautiful backdraft of fresh flowers, glowing lights, and stunning decorations, radiating chic elegance and extravagant flare, so perfectly captured as well by Gabby Yap Photography.
The Event Management and mostly concepts were tailored by Mr. Christopher Pontinez Ledesma of Toffy Events and Management, his calm demeanor, flexibility, coordination, responsiveness, and professionalism make him Pag-Ibig Fund’s choice for the perfect wedding coordinator.
I had the privilege of being a part of the team as the official Voice-Over, working with the rest of the team was a pleasure.
