SM City Davao through its Art in the City Visual Arts Festival Program together with Tabula Rasa Art Group Unlimited headed by Mr. Dinky Munda opened the Tabula Rasa Exhibit last March 11, 2017, featuring the Giant Tangram Competition.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was led by Guests of Honor Ms. Irene Santiago from the office of the President (Chair, Implementing Panel for the Bangsamoro Peace Accord), Ms. Maria Lynette Lopez (SM City Davao Mall Manager), and Ms. Ging Descallar.

The event kicked off with the Giant Tangram Competition participated by various schools in the city and is open to all Bonafide High School and College Students. Eight groups made it to the competition level with a maximum of three (3) and a maximum of five (5) students from the same academe.

The painting must embody the Mindanao Contemporary Art and Mindanao Tapestry. Participants were given 4x4ft tangram, with seven separate pieces of tans to paint. The competition’s criteria include Artistic Appeal, Interpretation of the Theme and Creativity and Originality. Grand Prize winner from the University of Mindanao took home ten thousand pesos with their “Fish” entry. The winning pieces are displayed at the 2nd Level Annex, near Kidzoona till March 25, 2017.

Tangram is a traditional Chinese puzzle made of a square divided into seven pieces (one parallelogram, one square, and five triangles). When all pieces are put together, they form one big square, when they are separated, they form what is called a tan. The relationship among the pieces enables them to fit together to form many figures and arrangements such as human, animals, structures and many others.
