THE Davao Designers Society United Philippines Group Inc. (DavDesSoc) gave an exclusive sneak peek of their first ever fashion show last June 8, held at the Museo Dabawenyo, which was dubbed as “Kadayawan Weave: The Haute Culture.”
The show featured neo-ethnic collections of Davao’s top designers, which include (president) Silverio Anglacer Jr., (vice-President) Christopher Ledesma, (secretary) Kenny Ladaga, (treasurer) Ronnie Nacua, (auditor) Ritchie Delos Santos and (public relations officer) Stephanie Dacalus together with Image Stylist Runolfo Plenos.
The stunning fashion show aims to promote the festival of the tribal and ethnic roots of Dabawenyos in a celebration of nature and bounties of the culture. Seven esteemed Davao creative designers/stylist and cosmetologist, who are known for their craft have integrated their minds to showcase the diversities and richness of Davao fabrics to a spectral and kaleidoscopic burst of androgyny, romantic sartorial, sexy, prêt-à-porter haute couture and avant-garde pieces in different patterns, beadings textile infusion and weaving. Kadayawan Weave: The Haute Culture, together with the support of Davao City Government, City Tourism Operations Office and Department of Tourism, takes pride on its local talents who successfully participated in the Miss Universe 2016’s Mindanao Tapestry.
The designers proved that their line of creations can transcend to a fashion sense with flair of inspiration and modernization that are at par with global designers.
Christopher Pontinez Ledesma inspires his creations from the tribes of Maranao, Tausug, and Maguindanaoan by way of utilizing their fabrics and patterns which are showcased through the embroidery and beadworks exemplified in their culture and traditions.
Richie Uy Delos Santos, on the other hand, bravely executes his designs by way of transforming old tradition to a recent lifestyle of the Maguindanao Tribe with a modern flare and infusion. Dav Des Soc, which is headed by President Silverio Anglacer, will spearhead the groups’ succeeding international shows in key cities in London, Canada, and the United States starting this July 2017 to August 2017. DavDesSoc’s artistic vision seeks to combine the use of indigenous materials and the indigenous techniques of weaving while staying true to the “Mindanao feel” with a cosmopolitan appeal.
